Dear Adminstrators, This letter serves as a reminder of your due collective response to the Racism, Power, and Privilege at UIUC forum that took place on February 1, 2007. We expect our administration to reflect seriously on what took place during the forum and to devote all due diligence and resources to construct a plan of action within 15 business days of the forum. Well over 3,000 students, faculty and community members joined the Webcast and packed Foellinger Auditorium, Gregory Hall Auditorium, and the Illini Union Ballrooms to capacity. Most are outraged about the climate of racism at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and are expecting your response. Before we can make the University of Illinois a fully functional institution that nourishes all of the students, faculty, and local community members who support it and make it thrive, we expect a written and verbal administrative response to each of the thirty-five S.T.O.P. demands and actions, that: 1) allows for cooperative planning between the administration, a diverse body of students, appropriate campus units, and local community members 2) outlines specific actions to be taken and the necessary supporting resources 3) delineates a time-line with definite deadlines & milestones 4) is available for public viewing in its entirety. While we are aware of the extant university programs aimed at addressing some of the issues we have raised, we expect that a sufficient response will identify new, innovative initiatives and courses of action that will effectively address and improve the campus climate. We also expect that the administration will work expeditiously to produce these strategies by February 22nd, 2007 at 11:00 AM, and strongly encourage the presentation of your response at a public meeting on campus. The S.T.O.P. Coalition will be hosting a press conference immediately following the receipt of your response on February 22nd. The press conference is scheduled to occur at 12:00 PM. It is imperative that we emphasize the importance of the administration's response. The nature and quality of your response would indicate your commitment to addressing the students' concerns and your dedication to positive change. Your failure to do so would indicate the exact opposite. We look forward to your response. Respectfully, S.T.O.P. Coalition
